Prince Charles has spoken of the urgent need for business leaders and politicians to tackle the problem of deforestation.
In an interview with the BBC, he said the world could not wait for new technologies to provide the answer to climate change - and that halting the destruction of forests was the single most effective method of cutting so-called greenhouse gases.
As Brazil becomes a major agricultural power, the demand for beef and soybeans from growing economies in Asia has put increased pressure on the rainforest.
This has meant that, despite the Brazilian government’s efforts to control illegal logging, the rate of deforestation in the Amazon jungle has soared.
