Continue the race Posted on May 16th
Recent letters to the editor have given various reasons for Hillary Clinton to drop out of the race. One suggests that it would display we are a colorblind society. Another that it is hurting the Democrats for November. A third quotes a right-wing commentator who suggested Clinton would be the weaker of the two candidates.
The first reason strikes me as a psychological issue and not a political one. The second is premature. The third is a right-wing opinion that should not decide the nominee.
Clinton has won handily in the large states. She failed to foresee the need to address caucuses where, with the help of a few thousand Democrats, Barack Obama was able to garner a large share of delegates.
Both Clinton and Obama are completely justified in continuing the race until the last delegate has cast his or her vote. Let us hope the citizens and not the politicians decide who will be the Democrats’ nominee.
