Fast Eddie better hope Poor Billy doesn’t sing Posted on November 22nd

Fast Eddie Vrdolyak has a nickname. Poor Billy Singer has none.

“I’ll never stab a guy in the back,” Vrdolyak once told me. “Maybe in the front. But not in the back.”

He’s been in the news lately because he pleaded guilty in a federal sting in a crooked Gold Coast real estate deal. But Eddie V. is not the only former Chicago alderman in the case.

Former Ald. William Singer (43rd) is the old lakefront-liberal reformer who helped knock the late Mayor Richard J. Daley out of Miami’s 1972 Democratic National Convention. Singer left politics years ago to make a better living in real estate.
